Re: Official and self-signed Certificate manual for hmail [S
I'm interested in preventing anyone with a sniffer from getting either my login information or the contents of messages as they are being sent/received. I do know that with email, without resorting to encryption tools like PGP, TrulyMail, etc. one cannot be confident that nobody will be reading it (...

Re: Official and self-signed Certificate manual for hmail [S
Thanks Bill. Just tried Thunderbird with the same settings, could not send. It give an error that reads: Sending of message failed. An error occurred sending mail: Unable to authenticate to SMTP server ...... The server does not support any compatible secure authentication mechanism but you have cho...

Re: Official and self-signed Certificate manual for hmail [S
Thanks for this. I was actually using 587, not 25 (but I was using the original SMTP entry). So, I created a new entry, using port 465, set to SSL with the self-signed cert and now, in OE, I get "The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified" and then giv...

Re: Official and self-signed Certificate manual for hmail [S
Hi Caspar, I'm having a bit of trouble with this. I've generated the key and csr (self-signed certificate) and testing with the following: openssl s_client ..... as stated above, everything looks just fine. However, I am unable to actually connect when SSL is enabled on hMailServer for SMTP. When I ...

OK, I had an idea. On my old server I used the normal squirrelmail but on my new server I used the hms mod. I put the hms mod on my old server (where the old squirrelmail works fine) and the hms mod fails with the same falure as listed above. :( I then put the regular squirrelmail installation on my...

Errors Logging In
Background: I'm moving my mail from one server to another. I got the hms issues all worked out and I can connect to the new server just fine (with Thunderbird). However, when I try this hms_squirrelmail I got some errors. I went through conf.pl (after installing activeperl) but still getting some er...

Exactly the point
Better to have a simple tool that works (sooner) rather than a very sophisticated tool that takes longer to develop and is more complicated to learn.
Just think about how many people still use notepad.

Which LDAP Servers do you use?
I would like to setup an LDAP server so I can centralize my users' addresses. Since I use hMailServer for email, I would like to know what other hMailServer admins use for an LDAP server (if anyone uses LDAP).
What do you use and how do you like it?
Thanks,
John

I see I can get MySQLFront downloaded, I am sure running the SQL statement will be fine but won't this delete 'good' emails as well as the bad? I really don't want to delete the good (non-delivered or delivered) ones. Any way around tossing out the good with the bad? When you say delivered, do you m...

I don't understand. Are you saying I chose some incorrect settings during setup? Is there something here that can only be done via re-install. I would like to avoid re-install as I have a lot of mail stored on the server and I don't want to lose these messages. At the same time I would also like to ...

I see a bunch (18,000+) .hma files and they have content. However, there are no directories under the data folder (no domain folders or user folders - all messages are just in the data folder). I do store my mail (IMAP) on the server but doubt I have 18,000 messages (I am the only user using IMAP). ...

This server is isolated. There are no other servers sharing the domain. It is hosted at Server Beach but is assigned a unique domain. I still get lots of spam going through it which I would like to stop. I have verified that Relay Mail for Local Users is set but from the logs, many, many, different ...

Unable to access inbox correctly
I am using hMailServer 3.1.2 with the default (MySQL?) database and have tried to send a message to myself. I am using DynDNS's SMTP server (not the one on the hMailServer) and when I look at the logs on hMailServer (see below) it looks like the email is being accepted but when I use Mozilla's Thund...

Send/Receive prob and lots of spam
Perhaps this should be two posts but I thought they might be related so I put them together. Just checked my logs and it looks like people are sending lots of spam though my hMailServer. Neither the from or to addresses are on my server (and they look silly like nzbqc5@@excite.ca which causes an err...

550 smtp authentication required
I have searched the archives and have not found anything that covers this problem. If it is a duplicate, I would appreciate being pointed to the correct thread. Anyway, here is my problem. I just setup a dedicated server at Server Beach and installed hMailServer on it. It is handling two domains rig...
