(in case it helps anyone, whilst on the server hmailadmin will not respond at all, all email clients also stop working - so I assume its a hmailserver and not hmailadmin problem - guess thats not really any help, but just in case)

thanks martin, we have something to clear messages older than two months at the moment - perhaps the table has just grown too big despite this. We want to track/store the outgoing email as well as incoming mail, so it would be good to be able to use this - but I shall leave it turned off for the mom...

check out phpWebAdmin, you can log in and given that the account you log in with is a domain admin - you can see a list of all users, their quota's, and how much they have used so far.

I think thats more likely to be a problem that you cannot deliver to that address because it does not exist, or the mailbox is full, or hotmail is ignoring you because it thinks you are spam/do not have static ip/mx records etc... rather than a problem with hmailserver.
