i actually think it is a time out, in that Spamassassin takes too long for hMailserver to wait

I do have these in my hmailserver.ini (Bill's ini settings), but they don't seem to do much

The reason that you couldn't log in was probably that your server was dealing with the 1.2 million messages, that you allowed by changing the IP ranges incorrectly.

The reason that mail can't be sent is likely because you are blacklisted after allowing an open relay.
Check your logs.

You can bypass greylist on a SPF match - but that also is problematic

A SPF record that ends in +all will pass ANY IP address
A SPF record that ends in ~all will pass hMailserver's SPF tests

Why do you think this is a DKIM validating issue?

Send an email to a gmail account that you control, and inspect that message

You can also add any custom logging that you want writting teh file in VBS, and there is the built-in 'events' log that you write to like this
