Database setup failing on Windows 10 pro Install

Post by EzPcc » 2020-02-02 01:06

So I have hM running on a Windows 2008 server and wanted to move it to a Windows 10 Pro machine going forward. According to the suggestions I know I need to install the same version software on the new server as on the current one which in my case is ver 5.6.7-B2425. For some reason I can't get the dB setup to completed. First I get the following error:

Code: Select all

Starting task...
Please wait while creating database...
Error:
The MySQL client (libmysql.dll, 32 bit) could not be loaded.
hMailServer needs this file to be able to connect to MySQL.
The MySQL client needs to be manually copied to the hMailServer Bin directory. The file is not included in the hMailServer installation.
Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\hMailServer\Bin\libmysql.dll
So I copy the missing ddl and try again this time I get the following error:

Code: Select all

Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (10061)
Just thinking since I want to user MySql do I need to install it first? Thanks in advance for your help.

You need to 32 bit of that dll to work with that version of hMailsevrer

I'm guessing that you installed the 64 bit version of MySQL and copied the 64 bit dll
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

Have you installed MySQL at all? Because hMailServer won’t do that for you.

You both have a point. I did install this on a windows server 2008 R2 thought I had the 64 bit version going since I used the same install file used when I setup the original. So to be clear I need to install MySql before I install HM? I don't recall my original steps unfortunately and I did not document it. I looked in the online documentation here but I don't see anything about install instructions for MySql...

It's amazing what you can forget if you don't use it... thank you both for your imput. I installed the dB first then HM. All seems to be working. Now just have to go to the documentation on how to move from old to new server... thanks again.

Backup old server using internal backup, select all options including compression
Copy backup to new server
Restore to new server

Test, test, test
Then change where the router points to

Thanks for the information. My current setup is larger then the utility will backup so I figured I would just copy over the data folder under hMailServer and the actual dB of my sql server. I think that is what the documentation for moving a server says. I did use the backup to export all my mailbox and settings successfully now just to move the data.

Upgrade both systems to latest Beta - the (fake) limit notification has been removed

If you do it manually, and just copy the database files - you would need the same version of the database on both servers as well. You should instead export your database and then import it using some tool like PHPMySQL.

In addition to the two things you mention, also copy your eventhandlers.vbs if you have any scripts

Ok I could try the upgrade.. you are referring to hMailServer 5.6.8 - Build 2494 (BETA) just to be sure... Thanks

I was talking about that build, but on looking deeper, I think that has a 15 GB warning

This custom build has no limit

As does the 5.7 ALPHA version that I use
