Is there a way to start Avast Antivirus manualy? I don’t want Avast to run all the time in the background only when I do a manual scan. Is this possible?

Can't you just disable the real-time shields? I recall the memory usage drops a lot as you disable them.. Or, not tried it but what happens if you stop the avast services?
