I'm moving home shortly and looking to get a faster broadband connection when I do.
I've phoned a few ISP's including virgin O2 and easynet and I can't get any sense out of them regarding getting RDNS setup on a home package. Virgin said no and O2 said it just works which I don't beleive and easynet didn't even know what RDNS is.

So can anyone running a home mailserver on a home broadband package faster than 8Mbs tell me which provider they are using and how easy was it to get them to set it up for you. O2 said I can do it myself but I thought the ISP has to do it at their servers or can it be done from a router?

Allows RDNS just email tech support, you cannot do it from your router. I hate first line sales/tech they never know anything.

BE also do not block any ports. I'm on the unlimited package for £21.97 p.c.m. which is upto 20mBit on ADSL2 I get around 16MBit real world. About 1.2Megabytes/sec down and 240k/sec up.

Highly recommend!

Thanks,
Just phoned them and they seem to know what they are doing. I've beeen very happy with Newnet as there tech support is excellent but they can't offer more than 8Mb/s where I'm moving to although its due soon on the BT 21BCN kit. Just a question of when I actually move as to whether I have to change to another provider.

Is Bethere part of O2 as O2 seems to be combined with Be unlimited. Not sure if that is the same company as BeThere.

Just been reading up on BT rollout of FTTC(fiber to the Cabinet). This looks brilliant if you can get it or when you can get it. Upto 10 Mb/s upload for £45 a month. That's a massive saving on what is being charged for dedicated lines currently. Its not dedicated but still opens up big possibilities for busy home based servers at far more sensible pricing than currently.
