clamwin AV email scan timing..

Post by westdam » 2007-06-11 12:03

hi everyone..
i'm just wondering to use ClamWin to scan my email ( i'm using EZ Trust but the license is going to expire and the new version it's too slow to scan mail .. ) so what about clamwin?

average time to scan a mail?
my Ez Trust takes about 200 ms to scan a mail on my system ( celeron 2.6 , 1ghz ram ) . I've tried in the past with the older relase of clamwin but it was sooo slow.. about 1.2 sec to scan a mail on my system. what about newer version??

If you need to be fast forget about ClamWin, you must use clamd && clamdscan (in service mode) in SOSDG or Win32 variants.

http://www.sosdg.org/clamav-win32/

http://w32.clamav.net/
My perfect combination:
hMailServer 5.6.1 (B2208), ASSP 1.3.3.8 (antispam), Clamav 0.98.6 (antivirus)

For a plenty of jpeg images 750Kb message:

1.020 sec

For a just one attachment 55kb message:

0.078 sec

I've not tried a simple text email, but I think it is what you wanted, isn't it ?

The machine here is a multipurpose (web server, email server, file server, ERP, fax server... etc) p4-2800 1GB RAM, but it can't be much diferent with yours.

Hope this helps.

Sorry forgot to say that this is with SOSDG, haven't had enough reasons to make the switch to w32, but if I were to start from scratch I would stick with w32 as there is no CYGWIN layer.

thanks iprat... it's what i want...
now i'm on Ez Trust ..on a 200 kb message it takes about 200 ms to scan.. it's quite well.. the fastest i've found it's the AVG ( also the Free edition!! ) but also AVAST pro it's amazing too..

but of course they're still $$$...

I've migrated from ClamWin to ClamAV.

ClamAV is really cool! Fast and easy. :D
