HOWTO: Use NOD32 with hMailServer

Post by MeBerserk » 2006-05-21 02:11

NOD32 Command Line Parameters:

"<nod32.exe>" /selfcheck- /expire- /sound- /quit+ /pattern+ /heur+ /scanboot- /scanmbr- /scanmem- /arch+ /sfx+ /pack+ /adware /unsafe /ah /clean /quarantine

If you want to log the scan add these parameters:
/log+ /logappend /log="<logfile>"

Replace <nod32.exe> with the path to your exe file. (default: c:\program files\eset\nod32.exe)

Well, I walked into one problem, this should be fixed in hMailServer and that it should work:
hMailServer should place the file parameter inside quotes (")

Now you've posted this to three different places. Makes me a bit confused. Do you expect me to comment it in all places? :)

Have you tried using the %FILE% macro within quotes as I suggested in my other message to you? If hMailServer would always place the file parameter within quotes, it wouldn't work with some other virus scanners.

Also, as far as I know, nod32.exe sometimes shows a user interface. If it does, the hMailSever delivery will hang for that message. And if this happens several times, all delivery threads will hang and hMailServer won't be able to deliver any messages.

For now it seems to work even the scan goes incredably fast, if I read the logs correct it finished in 100th of a second (0.100 seconds)

0.100 seconds isn't a 100th of a second. :)

A 10th of a second isn't incredibly fast; thats enough time for a thorough scan with todays CPUs.

nod32 virus setting

Post by Pern » 2006-09-10 19:35

example (what i use) virus line

"C:\Program Files\ESET\nod32.exe" /quit /selfcheck- /list- /scanfile+ /scanboot- /scanmbr- /scanmem- /arch+ /sfx+ /pack+ /mailbox+ /ntfs- /sound- /pattern+ /heur+ /ah /adware /unsafe /log+ /logappend /log=C:\PROGRA~1\hMailServer\Logs\Nod32\NOD32.log "%FILE%"

{update - redid to make statement a bit clearer}
please note the "%FILE%" must have quotes, as this was a problem in
http://www.hmailserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5043
{it kept making a file named program in the root C: drive}
{/update}

just thought everyone should know and have a example string to work with/try/use

%FILE% doesn't do anything.. hMailServer just replaces the %FILE% in the string with the path to the file. Adding %FILE% to the string can't have the effect that an extra file is created in the root directory. (If it does, it's a NOD32 issue)

the program file was being created in root drive c: was due to the break(space) in the argument line..thus causeing it to not have the corect path..fix was in fact the "%file%" marco being in quotes.
excerp from nod32 log file showing broken path due to not having "%file%" in quotes. (user error)

Code: Select all

Anyone having an issue NOD32 tagging every (even text with no attachment) email that it scans with the following:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
VIRUS DETECTED:
The attachment(s) of this message was removed since a virus
was detected in at least one of them.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I tried using the above the path and arg's above but still get the error.

"C:\Program Files\ESET\nod32.exe" /quit /selfcheck- /list- /scanfile+ /scanboot- /scanmbr- /scanmem- /arch+ /sfx+ /pack+ /mailbox+ /ntfs- /sound- /pattern+ /heur+ /ah /adware /unsafe /log+ /logappend /log=C:\PROGRA~1\hMailServer\Logs\Nod32\NOD32.log "%FILE%"

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

If I try to send a mail with an attachment (any attachment) the mail is delivered but does not have the attached file.

Please help!!!

What return value have you specified in the configuration?
Is it the correct path to nod32.exe?

You probably need to enable debug logging in hMailServer, reproduce the problem, and then check in the log what debug value your scanner returned.

Thank you for your reply.
What return value have you specified in the configuration = 0 (what should it be?)

Is it the correct path to nod32.exe? = This is correct.

Sorry Martin,

but wouldn't it be better to use "1" as return value as described in this article???

Re: HOWTO: Use NOD32 with hMailServer

Post by Alexey-ua » 2008-12-09 15:17

I have tried to connect nod32 to hMail, read forum and tested configurations.
Finally i stopped at this configuration:

Settings->Antivirus->External Scanner:
Scanner executable C:\hMail-nod32\Scan-nod32.bat "%FILE%"
Return value 1

C:\hMail-nod32\Scan-nod32.bat

***********
Scan-nod32.bat
cd "C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus"
ecls.exe /files /no-boots /arch /mail /sfx /rtp /adware /unsafe /unwanted /pattern /heur /adv-heur /action=clean /log-file=C:\hMail-nod32\hmail-nod32.log /no-log-all %1%
***********

if i used return value 0 - result is deleting attachements in all valid mails and all valid mails classified as visus detected, so never used "0"
if i used return value 2 - result is silent deleting virus attache (without classified letter as virus)
if i used return value 1 - virus attache is deleting and mail classified as virus detected

Alexey.

Does someone know how to make ESET Smart Security 4 working with hmailserver ?

Parameters seem to be different and :
"C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Smart Security\ecls.exe" /files /no-boots /arch /mail /sfx /rtp /adware /unsafe /unwanted /pattern /heur /adv-heur /action=clean /no-quarantine "%FILE%"

With value : 1

Don't detect simple eicar test.

Can you help me ?

Can you confirm that return value == 2 means that the setup is working? I cant even send the eicar test - both gmail and hotmail refuses to send that file :(

So basically Im not able to test of that setup works?

ITemplate,
You need to add "exit %ERRORLEVEL%" at the end of the batch file.

I have implemented the last batch shown here but ALL email is being marked as code 1. If I put return value as 1 it just flags all email as a virus if it has any content other than txt in it. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Collin

EDIT: if I set it to value 2 it won't detect any virus'

^doom^ helped get it working. Instead of using a .bat file. Simply put the command into the hmail v5 interface for external virus scanner. When tested, it gave me a return value of 10. I set that in the admin interface and all is well :)

These are the settings to get ESET NOD32 v4 x64 to successful work. :)

Scanner executable
"C:\Program Files\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\ecls.exe" "%FILE%"
(Please note the path to your "ecls.exe" file may be different to mine).

Return value
50

Tip: If you open up your "ecls.exe" in command prompt using the "--help" switch it should display all the various config switches and exit codes.

EICAR Test - https://www.andymillar.co.uk/blog/2007/ ... ith-eicar/

Virus found, exit code 50.

Re: HOWTO: Use NOD32 with hMailServer

Post by philcar » 2013-10-16 18:01

Hello all,

This post was most helpful to me.

Confirming hMailserver also seems to be working with ESET file Security 4.5 on Windows Server 2012.
Scanner executable is :
"C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET File Security\ecls.exe" "%FILE%"
Return code 50 indeed.
Refer to :
http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=co ... d=SOLN2285
or

Log lines :
"DEBUG" 1068 "2013-10-16 17:26:57.191" "Running custom virus scanner..."
"DEBUG" 1160 "2013-10-16 17:27:00.809" "Scanner: "C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET File Security\ecls.exe" "C:\Program Files (x86)\hMailServer\Data\{01E7FA95-995E-49F3-ADFF-78E3C7D7AC77}.eml". Return code: 50"
