Cannot receive some emails from outside

Post by Zeghra » 2020-02-24 14:04

I download emails from external account. I disabled all anti spam filter in Hmail. I have 2 rules only:
rule 1: I put this rule in the Rules that is under Domains, if "from" "contains" @spamdomain1.com or if from contains @spamdomain2.com or if from etc..., delete email
rule 2: in domain > mydomain > accounts > myuser@mydomain there is a Rules tab. There I put this rule: if subject contains "Eset Antispam" delete email
The "Eset Antispam is put in subject by my external account provider.

Simply saying, delete all incoming emails that its subject contain "Eset Antispam" (rule 2) and emails that I consider them as spam (rule 1).

In spite of this, I cannot get emails from certain senders that I trust. I put in rule2 if "from" "does not contain" @mytrusteddomain.com also, but still cannot receive these emails.

I see the email from user@mytrusteddomain.com in C:\Program Files (x86)\hMailServer\Data\mydomain\user\1B folder, but it is not downloaded in Outlook.
I can receive some of the trusted emails, but still cannot get from others, like it can be seen in below log.

What do I do wrong? Please advise.

I don't know what you mean by something is working. "Delivery to this account was canceled by an account rule Rule name: ESET Spam" This is my rule2. It stopped delivering from user@spamdomain1.com.
But then came Message 46760: Delivering message from user@mytrusteddomain.com to user@mydomain.com. Which was failed to download in Outlook. This is my problem. I can see email in C:\Program Files (x86)\hMailServer\Data\1B folder, but it is not loaded in Outlook. Some other trusted emails we can receive.

Disable your ESET Antivirus or exclude hMailServers DATA Folder from it.

I don't have ESET Antivirus. My external account provider puts this text in the email's subject if they thing (ESET Antivirus detects) the email is spam (they don't delete them). So I need this rule to delete these spam emails.

Run this >> viewtopic.php?f=20&t=30914

And include rules

I suspect that your rule is the problem
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

I ran the script and below is the log (for privacy issues, I changed to spamdomain and trusteddomain):

In the log above, it states:

ACCOUNT RULES for info@Domain1.com:

it should be

ACCOUNT RULES for info1@Domain1.com:

info1@Domain1.com downloads from external account and there is also a rule that forwards emails that are addressed to info1@Domain1.com.

In your ESET rule change from AND to OR for your conditions

At the moment an email MUST NOT match ALL conditions to fail
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

Ok, first there was no other criteria than subject contains "ESET Antispam". But when I did not get the trusted emails I put further criteria (trusteddomains).
If I use your logic and you sent me email (subject does not contain "ESET Antispam" nor you have a known trusted domain for me) your email would be deleted. Do you think it is OK? - OR from "not contain" @trusteddomain.com will apply and it deletes email?
I put AND:
If email has ESET Antispam in subject AND not from trusted domain1, AND not from domain2, AND not from domain3, etc then delete them. So if email comes from trusted domain then don't delete even if it has "ESET Antispam" in subject.

Use regex "not contain" with AND.

IF (use AND)
- SUBJECT contains "ESET Antispam"
- FROM regex: ^((?!trusteddomain1\.com|trusteddomain2\.com|trusteddomain3\.com|trusteddomain4\.com|trusteddomain5\.com|trusteddomain6\.com|trusteddomain7\.com).)*$

ACTION
- delete

This did not work. I sent email from my private email and it did not go through with this regex line ^((?!trusteddomain1\.com|trusteddomain2\.com|trusteddomain3\.hu).)*$
When I removed the FROM criteria (with criteria only subject contain "ESET Antispam"), then I got my email.
I had this rule with only the subject contains criteria and I still could not receive some trusted emails.

OK, it is working, but when I put myprivatetrusteddomain to the regex line, then the email is not received if ESET Antispam is in the subject, though the 2 criteria has to match in order to apply action (if subj. cont. "ESET..." AND regex line).
This is the log when myprivatetrusteddomain is not in the regex line (cannot find email in C:\Program Files (x86)\hMailServer\Data\)

Code: Select all

"APPLICATION"	4632	"2020-02-25 17:25:41.080"	"SMTPDeliverer - Message 53345: Message delivery thread completed."
This is the log when myprivatetrusteddomain is in the regex line, but cannot receive it in Outlook (I can find email in C:\Program Files (x86)\hMailServer\Data\)

Code: Select all

"APPLICATION"	4628	"2020-02-25 17:30:31.942"	"SMTPDeliverer - Message 53350: Message delivery thread completed."
However, the original problem is still exists, some emails from certain trusted domain I still cannot receive.

This did not work.
I just thought of something. You are aware that in rule criteria Regular Expression is an option in the selection of Equals, Contains, Not Equals, etc.? Regular Expression must be selected for regex to work.

https://www.hmailserver.com/documentati ... rence_rule
Different search types
hMailServer supports a number of different search types. They are: Is, Contains, Less than, Larger than and Regular Expression.

Is: Used to specify an exact match.

Contains: Used to specify a partial match. For example, you might want to apply the rule to email where the Body Contains a certain word.

Less than: Used for numeric matches. For example, you may want to apply the rule to email where the message size is less than 1 MB.

Larger than: Used for numeric matches. Opposite of Less than

Regular expression: Using regular expression matching, you can specify more complex matchings. For example, you may apply the rule to all messages where the subject line begins with a letter and the rest of it is numeric. For more information about regular expressions, visit http://www.regular-expressions.info/. The used regular expression should match the entire value it's being matched against. It is not possible to use partial matching. hMailServer rely on Boost/Regex to do regular expression parsing and use the Perl syntax. More information about available options can be found on the Boost site.
Other options are Not Contains, Not Equals and Wildcard. I think the documentation is old. There is no "Is" in current version, plus the documentation is missing these 3 I just listed.

Simply saying, delete all incoming emails that its subject contain "Eset Antispam" (rule 2) and emails that I consider them as spam (rule 1).
You have a number of rules that are shown in the diagnostics that could be rule 1
None of them have 'stop rule processing' as an action

As it is shown (and with the changes that you said that you made), a rule that meets rule 1 is later deleted by the ESET rule.

In your rules 'downloadToAllUsers' and 'megrendMindenki', change the equals to 'contains', and then add a 'delete message' as a rule action, then a 'stop processing rules' as final action

Put your ESET rule back the way it was originally

Ok, first there was no other criteria than subject contains "ESET Antispam". But when I did not get the trusted emails I put further criteria (trusteddomains)..
good to know.

Something is working. The rule actioned as shown.

Sounds good to reduce rules, but I'm not quite understand what you wrote. Rule1 is in global rule (under Domains), what action should I put there? What rule should I put in local?
I don't know where to set/find final action to set "stop rule processing" in Hmail. The documentation here does not state it at all: https://www.hmailserver.com/documentati ... s_examples
If rule is executed (ie. deletes emails) why can an other rule later have effect on that email? You wrote: "a rule that meets rule 1 is later deleted by the ESET rule". The email should have been deleted by rule1. Why a stop processing rule is needed at the end of rule?

I would like to do the following:
- download emails from external account by using info1@Domains.com
- if email has "ESET Antispam" in subject delete them
- if email matches to criteria in spam rule (from "contains" spamdomain.com) delete them
- all remaining emails that are addressed directly to user (user1@Domain1.com or user2@Domain1.com or user3@Domain1.com) forward it to user (which I made already and it's working, in external account settings I checked Deliver to recipients in MIME headers)
- all remaining emails that are addressed to info1@Domains.com or info2@Domains.com then forward these emails to all users (user1@Domain1.com and user2@Domain1.com and user3@Domain1.com)

It's one of the options under 'action'

Then do them IN THAT ORDER

the delete rule should be first, not last

Global rules happen before Account rules

On account level there are actually 3 rules. 'downloadToAllUsers' (info1@Domain1.com forwarding rule), 'megrendMindenki' (info2@Domain1.com forwarding rule) and ESET Spam (subject contain rule). On globally I have Spam mail rule

You put the stop rule processing where ever you need it

I have following rules:
Global: 1. if ESET in subject(with only subject contains criteria), 2. if from contains spamdomain
Rules on account level on info1@Domain1.com (which downloads from external account): 3. forward emails to all users that was sent to info1@Domain1.com 4. forward emails to all users that was sent to info2@Domain1.com
All rules have as last action the stop rule processing. I still cannot receive emails from some of our trusted domain.

Actually this could be my problem. If you look at above log, there are 4 "APPLICATION" lines. The first says "Message 54056: Delivering message from user@trusteddomain.com to info1@Domain1.com" and the third "APPLICATION" line says "Delivering message from user@spamdomain.com to info1@Domain1.com" and then the fourth "APPLICATION" line deletes. The user@trusteddomain.com did not contain "ESET Antispam" in subject, only the user@spamdomain.com had. However, both emails were deleted. Why was this rule applied to user@trusteddomain.com too or why the rule process the 2 emails at once or what happened based on my log above?

Your logs don't show that

enable debug logging to please

Please also run the diagnostics again with your current settings and include rules
