hMailServer 5.4-B1950 compatibility issues
Hello,
We are running hMailServer 5.4-B1950 on Windows Server 2012 R2.
Whenever we try to open the admin interface, I am getting a message
"The app can't run on your PC
To find a version for your PC, check with software provider."
Can anyone let us know how can we overcome this issue?

Re: hMailServer 5.4-B1950 compatibility issues
I run 5.4 on 2012 & never had a problem although I've not tried on R2. Did you try doing properties on the shortcut & changing compatibility mode? To me sounds more like corrupt install or something as I've not heard anything about R2 that would lead me to believe it's not backward compatible with previous Windows apps/programs. Assuming it's similar to win8 that error happens if tying to run very old 16bit app (Hmail is not 16bit), trying to run 64bit app on 32bit OS (hmail is not 64bit), or if the installer is not compatible which suppose is entirely possible unless someone confirms it works for them. Did you install in default path? Perhaps try installing in C:\hmailserver or better yet create a new volume (even if you must shrink your C volume to make room) then install to like F:\hmailserver & see if that makes a difference.Learningex wrote:Hello,

Hello,
We are using Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard edition. It does prompt the error message I have provided you.
I did already tried to compatibility mode option and tried using Windows 8 and 7 but still no luck.
We have installed it at C:\Program Files (x86)\hMailServer
How will changing the installation location help in this case?

Enable DEP only for Windows... and restart OS
Re: hMailServer 5.4-B1950 compatibility issues
You can accept help your can ignore it. Speaking FROM EXPERIENCE, there are KNOWN PROBLEMS since VISTA for some people when installing in default location due to Windows protections including file relocation.Learningex wrote:Hello,

Since you are having a problem others have not reported it requires effort on your part to resolve it including trying things that you may not understand.

Re: hMailServer 5.4-B1950 compatibility issues
Hello Bill,
If asking questions which I DONT understand but am willing and trying to understand is wrong, then what you said is right.
I want to know what difference will it make, that is the reason I asked it.
If you see the other replies, I did try what others suggested. I did even try the DEP stuff but that did not help.
I did try to install it on an alternate location and that did resolve the issue. Thank you for the suggestion and the help.
But I am still keen to know what difference does it makes?

Glad that resolved it and just confirmed my suspicion. I've mentioned it to martin in hopes that he'd alter the installer but it hasn't happened yet. I haven't taken the time to research it too thoroughly but I've had enough problems with enough programs installed in Program Files that I know to avoid that with certain programs. In particular if the program saves files in the installed folder which hmail does. (Seems Windows would prefer programs to write in AppData or anywhere but the installed folder) If you research it you'll see what i meant it's a common problem with certain programs. Windows feels the need to protect itself from file activity & hmail is heavy on the file activity & can end up not working correctly. It doesn't seem turning off UAC solves it but maybe there is a trick to it. To me it's easier to just avoid the hassles & install elsewhere so that's what I've done for the last few years.Bill48105 wrote:since VISTA for some people when installing in default location due to Windows protections including file relocation.
