Hi All
I have Hmail server installed and been working fine for the last however number of years
I have a domain called k*.net on it and they receive and send mail just fine.
I also have a mailinglist server listed in dns as list.k*.net
all of a sudden starting in December we now get the following when they tried to send something out to the listserver
(and yes it requires authentication and the list server is configured for that) but nothing goes out except for the below
The below ip is the ip of hmail servers ip address
Help I have lost hair over this

Re: Remote server replied: 530 SMTP authentication is requir
Yes but the distribution list or mail list is on a xbuntu box nit on the system running hmail.
All setting s are correct on the xbuntu box (checked by the programmer) it seems that Hmail is not sending the message to the mailing list and coming up with that error messgae on authentication

Re: Remote server replied: 530 SMTP authentication is requir
I must add that I can send out a email to another list that is on the same server that the above list is on just fine. Settings in hmail are the same for both lists
Thanks
Thanks

I can't see where in that log snippet that the error occurs...
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

Twelve lines up from the bottom
Re: Remote server replied: 530 SMTP authentication is requir
Sorry, should have looked harder
I've had this all wrong in my head. I was thinking you were using hMailserver's distribution lists, but you aren't.
You are simply sending a message to the list server (hosted elsewhere) - which the list server is rejecting, correct?
You say that your hmailserver is set to authenticate. How is your hmailserver set to authenticate to this list?
Do you have a route set for the list server?

Re: Remote server replied: 530 SMTP authentication is requir
no I don't have a route in Hmail for this.
What is so strange about it is this computer has two different mailing lists programs on it.
1. Mailman
2, ProDada
On these programs there is 5 mailing list. No one (including me) has any problem sending a message to 4 out of five of these lists. It's only the one and even if I try to send to this list it doesn't go anywhere. The original programmer has checked it and has found nothing wrong. In the list program itself (Which is pro Dada) you can run the smtp tests and everything s fine. It will send you a message. But when sent from hmail it seems that hmail goes into a loop resending the message over and over again. Now on top of all this nothing has changed since back in the summer when I upgraded Hmail.
I really don't understand routes but I would try it if shown how. I have always used the default and although look and try to learn I generally run a relay test and thats it.
I need this to work it's a 300.00 a month job I may lose
What is so strange about it is this computer has two different mailing lists programs on it.

OK
But where have you asked hMailserver to send the password when sending mail to this list server?
hMailserver won't typically send a password, unless you specify a route which requires authentication.
