Hmailserver Server issue
Hi there,
i have upgraded my system to the latest version and now I got big issue. My users are complaining as their emails are synchronizing and taking time to load up. It keeps downloading. Made my life hell today. Please suggest something. also there is a data synchronization utility add on I have found, do I have to use that?

Re: Hmailserver Server issue
Sorry that doesn't make any sense what is synchronizing and with what application? Have you enabled all logging? What have you done to troubleshoot this so far so we don't cover the same ground. No-one can help you with the information you have thus provided.
If at first you don't succeed, bomb disposal probably isn't for you! ヅ
Re: Hmailserver Server issue
Your users use POP3 or IMAP? Which email program do they use? Do POP3 users keep copies of emails on server? Are you sure that your server (CPU or memory) or network link are not overloaded?nchoudhary wrote:i have upgraded my system to the latest version and now I got big issue. We are using outlook 2007 and IMAP. We keep data on server. CPU usage is 6 - 10 %.

Re: Hmailserver Server issue
I just noticed a configuration warning on the hmailserver administrator under status tab but dont know where i can find out the warning.
Re: Hmailserver Server issue
So server is OK. How is your network link doing?nchoudhary wrote:We are using outlook 2007 and IMAP. We keep data on server. CPU usage is 6 - 10 %.
Can you connect to IMAP with some webmail client or telnet?
Please note that "we use IMAP" and "we keep data on server" is same thing. "Do you keep data on server?" applies only to POP3.

Re: Hmailserver Server issue
Yes I can connect it. Noticed another thing. There is performance tab on hmailserver admin and and an option in there INDEXING. i have just turned it on, so might be that causing the issue. Once it has index it should solve the issue.
Re: Hmailserver Server issue
If you use bundled MS SQL Compact edition, don't turn on indexing (http://www.hmailserver.com/forum/viewto ... 10&t=16916). If you have lots of emails and use different SQL server, turn on indexing after working hours.nchoudhary wrote:Yes I can connect it. Noticed another thing. My experience with indexing and MS SQL Compact says that you should be unable to connect to IMAP and one CPU core should be overloaded.
I think your Outlook IMAP clients don't benefit from indexing. It is more useful for webmail clients.

Re: Hmailserver Server issue
Thanks for your help. Really appreciate this. Just a review what I did and what we have. We are using hmailserver on one server and MS SQL 2000 as our database server on another machine. i have got around 100 user accounts my domain. I upgraded my system from version 4.4 to 5.3 on friday and since then we have this issue. I thought it will be only first time but when my users click on send/receive on outlook it just keep synchronizing. Emails are taking time to download from server. What do you suggest now?

Don't turn on indexing. You were fine without it on 4.4.x.nchoudhary wrote:Thanks for your help. Really appreciate this. Just a review what I did and what we have. Microsoft Office Outlook is not perfect IMAP client. It is possible that user's profile was corrupted or message ids changed after upgrade. User might have to recreate account in outlook.
Check your network link. Some routers allow to monitor network load with snmp and mrtg. If outgoing graph is flat, your link is overloaded. Servers don't work well, when outgoing bandwidth is maxed out.
I don't think that reindexing will help. If you reindexing mailbox, ids can change and outlook will have to fetch all messages again.
Create test setup with MS SQL 2000 server and hmailserver 5.3. Make sure that you have problems in it too. Maybe hMailServer has problems with older MS SQL server versions.
