Re: Build Question for Martin

jimimaseye, I might have more British in me than the normal American. BBC America is my favorite TV channel. :D SorenR, I'm not as young and cool as I sound...My first computer program was on a TRS-80 Color Computer 2 from Radio Shack. The "monitor" was a CRT TV connected via an RF modulator. I also...

Re: Build Question for Martin

Thanks for the replies. Let me clarify some things about my setup and why I asked: 1) I am ONLY building the sever. My intent is to make a new exe from the current product version 5.6.4 that is identical to production except for my changes. For testing in my production server, I'm just going to swap...

Build Question for Martin

I'm wanting to creating a working build of hMailServer so I can submit some code changes for some of the improvements and bugs I've found lately. I followed the instructions on the website and got it to compile (after adding a reference to the boost libraries in the project settings). However, there...

Re: DNS - Query failure 9560

OK...I'm going to get fired over this because I'm way behind at work now...but anyway....I took a quick peak at the code and I think I found the problem: In the function DNSResolver::Resolve_ all of the records are properly returned from the OS API call...so no OS problem. However, in the loop tryin...

Re: DNS - Query failure 9560

I can do that but I feel like people aren't drinking the cool-aid like I am. :D I've finished polling through all of my logged errors. Unfortunately, most of the IP's setup this way seem to be organizations where getting an account is non-trivial and most likely not free or bulk SMTP services and it...

Re: DNS - Query failure 9560

jimimaseye, Thanks for the response. I have read many of the DNS discussions on the forum. The forums have quite a few DNS threads and I believe there are several "problems" at play and this all leads to confusion as I believe they have different solutions. So, let me begin my rebuttal... :D First, ...

Re: DNS - Query failure 9560

Dravion, I think you are confused about my situation. Like I stated before, I have a local caching DNS server whose sole purpose is to provide DNS lookups for hMailServer to speed up the mail analyzing process. It only listens on interface 127.0.0.1 because I don't want it to be authoritative for an...

Re: DNS - Query failure 9560

Sorry for the multiple posts. I found some places where Windows wasn't showing correct search results. I downloaded a real search program (Agent Ransack). Using this tool, I actually found 474 hits for DNS Query 9560 failures that also have a "/" in the DNS record and follow the same format as RFC 2...

Re: DNS - Query failure 9560

Let me also clarify that I have dozens of these types errors, but all of the other IP's that I have manually checked really do not have PTR records so the error is correct/proper.

Re: DNS - Query failure 9560

This seems difficult to easily test since this happens doing the reverse lookup on the connecting IP. I'm open to suggestions if you have any ideas on how to test that. I did search all my logs (for which I only keep 6 months of). I had 13 connections from this IP range and 100% of them have the res...

Re: HmailServer & SpamAssassin : The WinSock error code is 2.

Sorry for the delayed update, but I've been really busy at work. I have discovered through my proxy program that I, too, occasionally get the socket close notification (or EOF as Boost calls it) BEFORE I have read all the information on the socket. In these circumstances, I can continue reading info...

Re: DNS - Query failure 9560

Dravion, this is not my domain and I have no control over it. I am the Hostmaster and DNS-Server Admin of MY domains. Their entry is correct, technically... It appears that the slash is indeed fine. DNS - Query failure 9560

Under what circumstances would hMailServer return the following error: DNS - Query failure. Treating as temporary failure. Query: 145.128/26.22.121.128.in-addr.arpa, Type: 12, DnsQuery return value: 9560. Could not retrieve PTR record for IP (false)! 128.121.22.145 Except for IP's that aren't actual...

Re: HmailServer & SpamAssassin : The WinSock error code is 2.

I finally got some time to investigate this problem more. First, I've always assumed this was a SpamAssassin problem and so I upgraded to the current Jam Software version (based on Strawberry Perl) hoping that things would be different. They are not. I still get 1 - 3 of these errors every day at ra...

Jam Software...thank you for the update/patch. It is consistent with my findings and obviously works for me. Now on to other issues. Re: SpamAssassin for Windows Version 3.4.1.36 Bugs?

I just recently installed the new SpamAssassin from Jam Software today and also had the same problems. When I looked into, it appears to me that Jam Software may not be installing all the necessary files in the runtime folder. For example, most of the errors come from Mail::SPF::v1::Record or Mail::...

Re: HmailServer & SpamAssassin : The WinSock error code is 2.

My results are very similar to RvdH. Also, I have been having this problem from day 1 (about 6 months now as I recently switch to hMailServer from Alt-N products) and I have also been running my own local caching DNS server from day 1 (as I hate all shared DNS servers). Also, according to my statist...

Re: HmailServer & SpamAssassin : The WinSock error code is 2.

I don't know if this is a clue, but I don't always get complete HM5157/HM5508 pairs. For example, I received 3.5 events yesterday. Notice the "half" event at 9:58. Also, just for information, hMailServer/SpamAssassin correctly processed spam immediately following some of these events at 08:21:29, 14...

RvdH,
I'd like to know what Operating System and Network Card and Driver you are using. Mine is on Windows Web Server 2008 R2, NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller, Windows Driver 1.0.1.211 dated 10/17/2008.

Thanks.

RvdH, I, too, am having the exact same problem. I am a Windows programmer by profession and I have spent a few hours trying to debug this problem. Re: SpamAssassin Score + hMailServer Score

You can somewhat have it both ways if you have spam systems that works together and not independently. Spam checking can definitely stop as soon as the delete threshold is reached. So if the HMS implemented checks hit the delete threshold, then there is no need to call any other checks. However, you...

jimimaseye, I certainly appreciate the point you're trying to make, but your new example is a bit contradictory. Re: SpamAssassin Score + hMailServer Score

SpamAssassin can be configured to use other URIBL and DNSBL that aren't provide out of the box. I do, in fact, do this. When SpamAssassin scores it above the configured threshold, it will add an X-Spam-Status: YES header (along with other informative headers). SpamAssassin Score + hMailServer Score

Is it intended behavior that hMailServer will not add the SpamAssassin score to its own score unless the SpamAssassin score is greater than or equal to the SpamAssassin spam threshold (i.e., SpamAssassin tags it as spam)? I've seen some discussions on this and it is eventually just dropped and the p...
