Re: WIn Server 2012 R2 Updates causing hMailServer to go 100% CPU

Thanks for the input. However, I repeat, Soren's sub only seems to identify the rule NOT the criteria. Palinka, your code is comprehensive but I already have most of that data in my version, and as far as I know, X-hMailServer-Reason-x is not standard and would not identify the criteria either. Plus...

Re: WIn Server 2012 R2 Updates causing hMailServer to go 100% CPU

Thanks both, but the issue is not creating a rule - that is simple with or without the API and I have my own web version to do so. The issue is in identifying which rule criteria is triggered when the rule action is performed. eg, XXXYYY"debug" 2864 "2020-01-21 04:33:25.492" "performing rule action"...

If you hacve another method to obtain the criteria (not rule) id when triggered, could you please provide an example?

Re: WIn Server 2012 R2 Updates causing hMailServer to go 100% CPU

Thanks SorenR but I believe the original problem of spiking CPU has been solved by changing from ODBC to use the COM API. Why this is the case is a mystery though. You can see the original Sub in my post of 2 Jan. I'm quite happy with my version of the database log, apart from the lack of detail abo...

Re: WIn Server 2012 R2 Updates causing hMailServer to go 100% CPU

That's interesting. I use a similar database (see post of 2 Jan) system, (originally from Martin's deliverylog script, now modified to use COM API again) and I prefer not to use a custom build. What I was asking though was if it is possible to get the oMessage detail from a "client connection from 1...

Re: WIn Server 2012 R2 Updates causing hMailServer to go 100% CPU

It looks like the ADODB was causing the problem although I continue to use ADODB in a number of other subs in my scripts without problems. There have been daily attempts since my last post by one of the offending senders, but they are now passing the asynch task to be deleted by a rule. However, I d...

Re: WIn Server 2012 R2 Updates causing hMailServer to go 100% CPU

I have changed the script that creates the delivery log not to use ADODB, although if the msg is rejected by a rule, my script updates the log record using ADODB and that part is working fine. However, since doing that, none of the offending msgs have been attempted so there have been no spikes but ...

Re: WIn Server 2012 R2 Updates causing hMailServer to go 100% CPU

That doesn't surprise me, as this msg, like previous, was saved in data, and then spiked hmailserver, presumably before any further processing was done.
There are no X-hMailServer entries in it at this stage.
Not sure where you're going with this, Palinka.

Re: WIn Server 2012 R2 Updates causing hMailServer to go 100% CPU

Hi
I am using MySql 8 and have been for a long time before this happened last week.
Sorry, what do you mean by " the "hMail" ODBC Alias in your logs"

Re: WIn Server 2012 R2 Updates causing hMailServer to go 100% CPU

I sopke too soon! Even after removing the updates that I could and definitely KB4525243, a few hours later the high cpu returned in 33% increments and I have been unable to determine the cause. At present the only solution is to restart hmail regularly which is crazy. Running procmon shows this erro...

WIn Server 2012 R2 Updates causing hMailServer to go 100% CPU

On Nov 13 2019, the following windows server 2012 R2 updates were installed and I use hmail latest hMailServer-5.6.7-B2425. One or more of these appeared to rocket hmail to 100% CPU utilisation even when clamwin and spamassassin were turned off. This despite several server and many hmail reboots. I ...

How to detect zero width space

I am seeing a huge increase in the use of & # 8203; - zero width spaces in the body of spam mails, which prevents normal rule criteria match values from being used.
Sometimes enclosed in <span>s.

Does anyone know how to detect them?

Re: IPv6 Retry on failed delivery via IPv4

FYI, I did try binding the primary IP but as I have multiple domains using each IP, this caused rejects as the spf record did not have all the domains included. To include them would make too many DNS lookups and also cause rejects. However the incident with IPv6 has not recurred since. Thanks for r...

Re: IPv6 Retry on failed delivery via IPv4

Since the DNS is not theoretically configured for IPv6, only the IPv4 should be returned as happened the first time around. I don't understand why hmail would then automatically retry the bounce with the IPv6 that it has obtained from somewhere else. However, I have set the bind to IPv4 and will hav...

Re: IPv6 Retry on failed delivery via IPv4

Hi Matt Thx for prompt reply. The adapter properties have IPv6 disabled in my windows server which is a VPS at databasemart.com. My DNS is lodged with Namesilo at ns1.dnsowl.com but I guess it is possible, perhaps likely, that the hardware host of the shared server or their gateway 104.217.253.1 has...

IPv6 Retry on failed delivery via IPv4

Hmail 5.6 on Win 2012 R2 I have an issue where hmail attempts to resend to gmail via IPv6 when the first attempt via IPv4 is rejected. This seems to have started only in the last month with no changes to my hmail setup. However, my Windows does NOT have IPv6 enabled although several addresses seem t...

Re: hMail 5.4 - Recorded Log not showing mail from or receip

Yes, the recorded log is the one you refer to, although mine is in a different disk location. The real time log I refer to is the Status/Logging panel when started. However, I think I have realised my mistake. I have been reading the logfile remotely via a web page and it is probably trying to inter...

hMail 5.4 - Recorded Log not showing mail from or receipt to

My recorded logs do not display the mail from or receipt to addresses, but capturing a real time log does. Is this a bug? If so, it seems pretty fundamental and is making it very difficult to trap spam. Recorded log "SMTPD" 3972 4 "2014-07-31 06:48:38.484" "198.104.131.166" "SENT: 220 xxx here" "SMT...

Rule deleting message AFTER sending to user

I just moved servers and went from 5.3 to 5.4 I migrated the rules which are mostly anti-spam and set to delete. The rules are executing correctly but AFTER sending the message to the recipient. Obviously the intention is to prevent them reaching the user. Is there some change between versions causi...

Re: Rule Criteria logging

NP, and thanks for the reply. I have added a feature request, and it should be simple to add a counter to either hm_rules and/or hm_rules_criteria. In the meantime, I can see no other option but to convert my criteria to rules and then parse the logfile periodically to get the info I want. If anyone...

Re: Rule Criteria logging

Sure, I have a rule_id #2 named "Spam" in hm_rules and currently multiple (over 600) records in hm_rule-criterias with different criteriamatchvalues and the same criteriaruleid. Would you like sample data? I found the message object definition, and as suspected, it has no hint of any rule or rule c...
