Re: getting spam and undeliverables from local users
...senders are considered external if they do not match an account set up in hMailServer. Adding a domain but no accounts won't have any effect on that. Ah, ok. I was thinking that by having a local domain, that would cause any addresses from that domain to be considered local. The behavior is real...

Re: getting spam and undeliverables from local users
Looks like we'll have to wait for 5.2. After adding the domain with no mailboxes, the secondary server is still accepting messages from the internet that pretend to be from "local" users. Local now means matching the domain "mydomain.com" and the route for "mydomain.com", both of which are configure...

Re: getting spam and undeliverables from local users
Alright, I'm ready to test this. Have just created the domain "mydomain.com" on the secondary server (same domain as in the route) with no mailboxes. Will monitor and post back to let you know how this works.
Thanks,

I'm leaning towards changing the implementation in 5.2 so that a sender is considered local if: ... - the domain-part of his email address matches a route which is configured to be treated as local. ... Re: getting spam and undeliverables from local users
I looked at the settings you sent me. The behavior is 'logical' in the sense that each part functions as-designed, but not very easy to understand. Are you sure that the server is accepting this mail in the first place, and that the NDRs aren't just backscatter because your address was INCORRECTLY listed as the FROM address by the spammer, (ie the original message never went near your server)? Yes, I'm certain; the NDR is generated when this s...

Re: getting spam and undeliverables from local users
If you have a large installation, you might want to wait for 5.2 which will contain some performance improvements. Performance in 5.0 and 5.1 is slightly lower than the one in 4.x. Upgrade to version 5.x - that way you can force authentication for local <-> local accounts and stop the spam. Version 4.x does not have this ability and its a good reason to upgrade to 5.x.
